CA Visitors, Volley Pics, Tiramisoup, and Maple Syrup!

Hello Friends and Family!

January is cold! I'm starting to be done with the whole bundle-up-anytime-you-go-outside thing, but I am excited for the OLYMPICS to start! Vancouver 2010! Woohoo!

Life here is as awesome as usual. Last week brought two somewhat random American visitors to our humble abode in Klagenfurt. In late November, I got an email from my aunt telling me about a friend of hers who might be headed in my direction on a trip.. Fast-forward a couple couple months, and I came to meet Mark and Victor, who decided to make K-furt their last stop before heading back to the states from Vienna! We had a great couple days with these two random and awesome Californians, and we took a family portrait just before they took off for the train station!

I've recently had some extra time on my hands, so I was finally able to download some of the pictures from our games. Here are some shots of the Wildcats 2009-2010, proof that I do actually do more than just travel around and eat and act like a kid with Kristina!

In other news, I was in a Rachel Ray mood the other day, and decided to try my luck at preparing one of my favorite desserts: tiramisu! I was super stoked about it, and looked up the best recipe I could find. On my grocery run, however, I couldn't find some of the key ingredients (i.e. mascarpone cheese!! key ingredient numero uno!), but I thought I could consult my inner Rachel and MacGyver some substitutions. Whelp, after a somewhat impatient attempt, I ended up with something that resembled tiramisu and had all of the key tastes of tiramisu, but was actually more like tirami-soup.... as in almost entirely liquid. Ha! Fortunately for me, my friends are amazing, and laughed it off while choking it down. Thanks Kristina and Marco!

It's almost February, but yesterday brought a fun late Christmas present from one of Kristina's Canadian compatriots, Ryan, the setter on the men's volley team. He had a chance to go home over the holidays, and brought us some priceless North American goodies: for Kristina, Stride gum, and for me, a big bottle of Aunt Jemima maple syrup! So excited to drizzle that goodness on some of Kristina's amazing pancakes!

That's all from this end. Headed to the men's volleyball game in a bit, then off to evening practice! Hope all is well at home!
